Explain the contribution of the minority races to economic and social development of Tanzania since 1961.

Among over 120 distinct ethnic groups in Tanzania; the Majority are of African descent while the minority races include Arabs, Asians, Europeans and some indigenous groups such as Dadza, Akie and Barabaig with unique cultural practices and lifestyles.

Since Tanzania’s independence in 1961, minority races have played significant roles in the country’s economic and social development as show below:

Economic Contributions

  1. Business and Trade: Minority communities, particularly those of Indian and Arab descent, have been instrumental in the business sector. They have established and managed various enterprises, contributing to the growth of commerce and trade in Tanzania.
