Explain the term avalanche as applied to an ionization chamber.
A n avalanche is a large number of moving ionized particle created as a result o secondary ionization due to collision between ions and gaseous atoms when electrons are accelerated by high p.d whereby each ion pair formed cause further ionization of the gas.
