Explain why a companion cell has a large nucleus.

The nucleus of a cell controls all metabolic activities of the cell and as such, the size of the nucleus of s cell is directly proportional to the metabolic activity of the cell.  The companion cell is a site for intense metabolic activity and thus has a large nucleus.
