Mortar for block laying
Recommended ratios of sand to cement depending on specific application and desired strength of the mortar include
- Standard mortar mix : 4 parts sand to 1 part cement
- Concrete Mix: For bricklaying with concrete, the ratio depends on strength requirements. A common mix is 1 part cement to 2 parts materials (usually sand and gravel).
- Thicker application: Like foundations may use a weaker mix of 1 part cement to 3 parts sand to 6 parts gravel
