Reaction of alkenes with hydrogen halides (HX ; X = Cl, Br, I)
The reaction is carried out by bubbling HX through alkenes.
Example 1
Propene reacts with hydrogen chloride to give 2-chloropropane
Example 2
Phenylethene reacts with hydrogen bromide give 1-bromo-1-phenylethane
