• The tissue metabolizes rapidly at first to keep with the oxygen supply.
• As oxygen builds up, it inhibits certain enzymes involved in the Krebs cycle, thus interfering with cell respiration.
• This often leads to muscle twitching followed by impaired vision breathing difficulties, confusion and lack of coordination and finally convulsion and death.
