Explain how resting membrane potential is formed in a neuron
Formation of resting membrane potential
A nerve cell when at rest, it membrane inside is negatively than on the outside by a potential difference about -70mV.
The the resting membrane potential is maintained by sodium potassium pumps found in the cell’s membrane. These use energy in form of ATP to actively pump 3 Sodium ions out of the cell for every 2 Potassium ions inside the cell.
