Explain how termite are able to feed on wood.
Termites breakup the wood into tiny pieces using their sharp and strong mandible which they swallow easily.
On reaching the crop, protozoa and bacteria in the crop ingest the swallowed food by phagocytosis. They secrete cellulase into their food vacuole, thereby digesting the cellulose in the termite diet.
The product of digestion mainly glucose diffuse out of the protozoa and are absorbed by termites.
