Explain how the classical wave theory fails to account for observation that photoelectric emission is an intantaneous process.
According to the wave theory radiation energy is uniformly spread over the whole wave front. Since the amount of energy incident on any electron would be extremely small, sometime would elapse before an electron escapes from the metal surface. On the contrary, no such a time lag between the start of radiation and start of emission is observed even when the radiation is weak.
