Explain why breathing in pure oxygen at higher pressures than atmospheric is dangerous

The tissue metabolizes rapidly at first to keep with the oxygen supply.

As oxygen builds up, it inhibits certain enzymes involved in the Krebs cycle, thus interfering with cell respiration. This often leads to muscle twitching followed by impaired vision breathing difficulties, confusion and lack of coordination and finally convulsion and death.
