Pajan’s rules of covalency

Pajan’s rules of covalency

These are conditions that when possessed by cations and anions of a given molecule, make the ionic bond partially or fully covalent.

  1. The cation should have high positive charge on it.
  2. The cation should be small in size.
  3. The cation should have ns2np6nd10 configuration which has high polarizing power.
  4. The anion should have a high negative charge.
  5. The anion should be large in size.
