Properties of chromium as a transition element
Properties of chromium as a transition element
- Forms colored compounds; for instance Cr3+ is green
- Has variable oxidation states; +2, +3, +4, +5, +6.
- Forms complexes, e.g. Cr(NH3)63+.
- has catalytic properties: for instanceCr2O3 + ZnO catalyzes formation of methanol from CO and hydrogen.
CO (g) + 2H2(g) → CH3OH
