Beryllium evolves H2 when reacted with sodium hydroxide solution to form a complex and hydrogen.
Be (s) + 2OH– (aq) + 2H2O (l) → [Be(OH)4]2-(aq) + H2 (g)
magnesium, calcium, barium do no react with sodium hydroxide.
