Why when a plate of copper is pushed into a strong magnetic field between the poles of a powerful electromagnet, considerable resistance to the motion is felt, but no such effect is felt with a sheet of glass.

When the plate moves it cuts the magnetic field and Eddy currents are induced in it

The magnetic field due to Eddy currents interacts with the applied field opposing the motion.

Glass is an insulator and no current is induced in it hence no resistance to its motion.
