Explain the effect of nonvolatile solute on the vapor pressure and boiling point of a liquid
Effect of nonvolatile solute on vapor pressure and boiling point of a liquid.
Nonvolatile solute reduces the vapor pressure of a solvent because the nonvolatile solute particles occupy part of the surface of the solvent and lower the probability of solvent molecules to evaporates.
Lowering the vapor pressure of the solvent rises the boiling point because the solution has to be boiled to a temperature higher than its boiling point to make its vapor pressure equal to that above the solution in order to boil
