Procedure for machine milking
Preparation
- Clean and sanitize all equipment before use
- Wear clean gloves
Pre-milking
- Observe the cow for any sign of illness or mastitis
- Fore strip each teat by hand check for abnormalities and stimulate milk-let down
Cleaning the teats
- Dip the teats in approved disinfectant for about 30seconds
- Wipe the teats dry with a clean, single-use towel
Attaching the milk unit
- Attach the milking unit within 60-120s after initial stimulation to maximize milk let down
- Ensure the teat-cups are aligned properly to avoid slipping
Milking
- Monitor the milking and adjust the unit as needed to ensure efficient milking
- The milking process takes about 4 – 7 minutes per cow
Post – milking
- Shut of the vacuum before removing the milking unit to prevent injury
- Dip the teats in a disinfectant to protect against infection
Clean up
- Clean and sanitize all equipment after use to maintain hygiene and prevent mastitis.
