Procedure for machine milking

Preparation

  • Clean and sanitize all equipment before use
  • Wear clean gloves

Pre-milking

  • Observe the cow for any sign of illness or mastitis
  • Fore strip each teat by hand check for abnormalities and stimulate milk-let down

Cleaning the teats

  • Dip the teats in approved disinfectant for about 30seconds
  • Wipe the teats dry with a clean, single-use towel

Attaching the milk unit

  • Attach the milking unit within 60-120s after initial stimulation to maximize milk let down
  • Ensure the teat-cups are aligned properly to avoid slipping

Milking

  • Monitor the milking and adjust the unit as needed to ensure efficient milking
  • The milking process takes about 4 – 7 minutes per cow

Post – milking

  • Shut of the vacuum before removing the milking unit to prevent injury
  • Dip the teats in a disinfectant to protect against infection

Clean up

  • Clean and sanitize all equipment after use to maintain hygiene and prevent mastitis.
